God Knows All Mysteries

Several years ago, I was at church looking through a box of unmarked keys. I was looking for a spare key to my office. Since none of the keys were labeled, I had to check several keys until finally, I found a key to my office door. The box was filled with more than two dozen keys—all without labels. I thought it was time to remedy the situation, so I checked every key on every door in the church. When I found a key that fit a lock, I put a label on it. When I finished checking every key in every door, I was left with a handful of useless keys.

This box of unmarked keys piqued my curiosity. Who put the keys in the box, mixing them up and leaving them unmarked and virtually useless? Why didn’t they mark the keys? Why were there so many keys without locks? It was all a mystery.

Life is full of mysteries for which we have few answers. Obviously, someone put the keys in the box, but who it was and why they didn’t label them will probably remain a mystery, known only to the person and to God who knows everything.

I’m glad God knows everything. God’s knowledge is infinite. He knows everything from the past, present, and future. God knows and understands astrophysics, microbiology, genetics, history, linguistics, sociology, psychology, anthropology, geology, and all the sciences. God knows and understands black holes, quarks, and chaos theory. God knows every one of the billions and billions of stars not only in our galaxy but also in all the galaxies across the universe. The Bible says “Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name (Isaiah 40:26).”

God is infinite. He is all-powerful and knows all things. God has infinite power and wisdom; yet, this infinite God is not too powerful to notice us. God sees us and he cares about us. The all-powerful God cares about lowly creatures like you and me. The Bible says: “What are human beings, that you think of them? Mere mortals, that you care for them?” The fact that in infinite God would care about people like you and me begs the question why? Why does an infinite God care about us? Why does the all-powerful God care about the speck of dust called “humanity”. Why does God care about you?

God cares about you because you are special to him. You are precious and valuable to God. Jesus tells us that we are more valuable to God than all the rest of God’s creatures. (Matthew 10:31).

We are valuable to God because he made us in his image. Human beings are the only creatures that were made in God’s image. We are the pinnacle of God’s creation. This makes us special—valuable.

What are the implications of being special and valuable to God?

1) Being special to God means he will never abandon you. Unlike the keys that were carelessly thrown into a box and forgotten, God will never forget about you. God will never turn his back on you. The Bible says that God will never abandon you or forsake you. God is and always will be with you.

2) Being special to God means you can trust God to guide your life. The Bible says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).” You can believe that God will lead and guide you into a good life. The Bible says that God is like a shepherd who leads us to gentle streams where we find refreshment for our souls.

3) Being special to God means that God will provide for your needs. God says: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).”

Maybe someday I’ll solve the mystery of the unmarked keys. In the meantime, I’m going to stay close to the one who knows all mysteries, who will never forget about me or abandon me, and who can solve every problem I have. I’m going to follow God because he cares about me.
