I’m often amazed to hear people complain about the most trivial things. I guess it’s just human nature to see the negative, find fault, and complain. I try hard not to be a complainer, but sometimes I focus on the negative rather than the positive. Negativity and finding fault, however, is seldom helpful. A negative attitude is contagious and will only spread more negativity, and no one likes to be around someone who is sour and moody.
On the other hand, we all like to be around people who are optimistic, happy, and cheerful. The choice is obvious. We should try our best to look on the bright side and focus on the positive. Rather than being a complainer, we should be someone who gives compliments. Instead of tearing people down, we should try to encourage people.
One place we often forget the importance of having a positive attitude is at home. If we’re not careful, we can easily get annoyed at our spouse or our children for even the littlest things. Let me encourage you to do your best to keep it positive. Try to remember that they are God’s gifts to you and try to appreciate them.
Another place we often forget to try to keep things positive is at work. It’s easy to complain about the boss or an annoying co-worker. Let me encourage you to try your best to have a good attitude. You’re not going to change your boss, and you can’t do anything about an annoying co-worker. You can, however, change your attitude. You can choose how you respond. You can decide what kind of person you want to be. You can be happy, or you can be a complainer.
Life is too short to be gloomy and irritable. So try to be positive. Focus on the good things of life and ignore the things that bother you. Try to be someone who brings cheerfulness into the home and workplace. The Bible says, “Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, ‘children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.’ Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky (Philippians 2:14-15).”
