Ever had a day when nothing seems to be going right? We all have days like that. You wake up to find you forgot to buy milk for breakfast. You get stuck in a traffic jam. Someone at work is out sick, and you have to do their work in addition to your own.
Recently, I had a bad day. I wanted to ride my bicycle, but when I tried to ride it, the rear wheel rubbed against the brake pads. I checked it out and found my rear wheel had a broken spoke. A broken spoke is bad. It causes the wheel to be wobbly and lopsided. The bike looked perfectly fine, but if you look closer, you can see something definitely ain’t right.
Sometimes, our life is like that bicycle. It looks fine, but something ain’t right. To all appearances you have everything together, but if you look closely, you can see you have a broken spoke. Maybe the broken spoke is a bad habit. Maybe the broken spoke is a lack of discipline that occasionally messes up everything else. And like a broken spoke, you know if you don’t fix it, your life will be like a wobbly, lopsided wheel.
Many times, you can fix the problem on your own, but sometimes, the problem is too big to fix on your own. I can’t fix a broken spoke by myself. I have to take the wheel to an expert at my bike shop. These experts have fixed many broken bikes and broken spokes and know what to do.
There is only one real expert when if comes to fixing broken lives—God. God knows you better than you know yourself, but you have to cooperate with him by bringing yourself into his workshop.
If you have a problem that seems to big to solve on your own, bring it to God, and you’ll be surprised by how easy it is to let him do his work. God is an expert in helping people fix their lives. How can you find his repair shop? All you have to do is come to him in prayer and spend a few minutes every day reading your Bible and praying. The Bible says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7).
Don’t go another day with a busted spoke. Reach out to God in prayer and let him guide you through his word the Bible.
